We strive to be an energetic church that reaches out to visitors with a warm hand of hospitality. A helpful community that seeks to assimilate new members. Western Heights has matured through its long history in the city of Sherman. This church began in 1850. Early in its history it became the Houston Street church. Many years later it grew into the Walnut Street church. After another generation of growth it blossomed into the Travis Street church. It became the current Western Heights church in the summer of 1993.
This church is a balanced blend of members that represent all four adult generations. This means that you can find peer fellowship here whatever your age may be.
The quality of a church is not only measured by its members but also by its commitment to Jesus. The Western Heights church advocates Christian faith that confidently affirms the Bible alone to be our creed. We seek to speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is silent.
Jesus is our only Lord. We trust the Christ who has redeemed us. His law of love is our supreme code of conduct. Our goal is to be filled with the Holy Spirit and manifest the Spirit's presence by bearing the fruit of the Spirit in our personal lives. To promote these goals we sponsor Bible classes Sunday and Wednesday to educate our members in the Word of God. We also host two public assemblies every Sunday to encourage one another in faithful Christian living.
